He is the most qualified to do the the prosthetic aspect of the dental implant treatment.

An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the specialist most qualified to do the dental implant surgery. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Periodontist is another specialist who can surgically place an implant fixture. He can substitute a surgeon in a dental implant team. Periodontics is that specialty of dentistry which encompasses the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth or their substitutes and the maintenance of the health, function and esthetics of these structures and tissues. He is the most qualified to do the dental implant maintenance aspect of dental implant treatment.

An orthodontist can help in implant treatment. He has a special role in the creation of bone volume.

A dental team composed of different specialties is essential for a succesful dental implant treatment outcome. The total dental implants cost may be higher with interdisciplinary dentistry but working with periodontists, surgeons and prosthodontists will ensure that patients will achieve a beautiful and healthy smile.
